Jaheim faced many harsh challenges growing up in a foster home in Jamaica, and the severe treatment he received still lingers in his mind today. Not knowing his mother and father added to the suffering he endured.

Jaheim was eventually adopted by a loving and caring mother. She adopted him and two brothers (one was Jaheim’s biological brother). She was not an Adventist, but she would send him and his brothers to the Seventh-day Adventist Church Reform Movement. A new life in Jaheim began. He received kindness and compassion, and he learned that true love exists. He also learned to empathize with others, seeing that everyone has unique struggles.

Jaheim submersed himself in the church environment and surrendered his life to the Lord through baptism on September 30, 2023. He has since held various offices supporting the church, including Assistant Youth Leader and Assistant Missionary Leader. He has learned that life’s challenges can be overcome with faith, love and support.

He completed high school and wanted to have a career, so he applied and was accepted for a government-sponsored trade school, which he is about to complete. He is looking forward to starting his career. He is already using his skills to help his local church rebuild a Canteen that Hurricane Melissa destroyed.

He wants to encourage everyone to hold on to the Lord and continue living lovingly with one another, as love is the key. He reminds us that it is out of love that Christ came and died for us, and so we should practice love, with
all whom we meet, as we never know who we may impact.

Jaheim will soon need tools to start his trade. Please consider donating to the future of this resilient child of God.

Elham, a Church sister from Jamaica, shares a harrowing story of how she, her daughter and her 8-year-old grandson survived Hurricane Melissa.

Elham described how the storm started quickly, with powerful, raging water filling the streets around them, then rushing into her house with fierce intensity. She and her small family, fearing the floods would drown them, quickly left their apartment in the dark of night. With hurricane-force winds blowing and torrential rain pummeling them, they climbed carefully up an exterior metal staircase to escape the rising water. They reached a small 6 x 8 room, where they waited as the flood waters rose and the storm beat around them, praying to the Lord for deliverance.

When the storm eventually abated, Elham saw that water had reached just below the ceiling of their apartment. It is unlikely they would have survived if they had not left the apartment just before the water burst in. Everything was water-damaged, and there was mud up to her ankles throughout the apartment (see photos below). She had to move into the Pastor’s house for several months until she could get a new home and belongings, and she was able to do so with some help from the Canadian Field Good Samaritan Ministry.

Please consider donating to the Good Samaritan Fund so that we can keep helping people like Elham when a need arises.
